How to use this calculator

Enter annual income for each spouse, then add only the investment and adjustment sections that apply. Ownership percentages allocate joint income according to each spouse’s actual contribution. Review the live results for each spouse.

Assumptions and methodology

The calculator estimates CRA Line 23600 net income using the workbook’s income, attribution, gross-up, deduction, and capital-gain rules.

Capital-gains inclusion rate
50% (fixed)
Gross-gain multiplier
2.0× (fixed)

Eligible Canadian dividends use a 1.38 gross-up factor. Other-than-eligible Canadian dividends use 1.15.

Important limitations

This model uses annual estimates and does not calculate full personal income tax, provincial tax, benefit interactions, eligibility for pension splitting, or every CRA adjustment. Its OAS recovery estimate is not capped to the individual’s actual OAS entitlement, matching the workbook calculation.
